My new (bamboo) bed

Friday, May 25th, 2007

I am thinking of getting a new bed. And it is not as simple as it seems… I have been checking a couple of furniture shops here and there. I realized that I like bamboo beds.

It all started when I went to the Bicol Region, southern Luzon (Philippines). I slept in this austere bamboo bed. I loved it.

Googleing around, I found this cooly bed:

Upgrading Ubuntu 6.10 to 7.04

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

When I got home last night after my office (stressful) day I got happily surprised with the fact that my Internet line was working again.

I had been thinking for several days of upgrading my Ubuntu system to the recently released 7.04 version. So I decided to go for it.

A short google-ing time took me here (among others):

Upgrade Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft) to Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn)

Basically, I executed:

unai@baphomet:~$ update-manager -c

And everything went very very smooth.

I guess I should mention that my machine had to download more than 700 MB from the Internet, which took several hours.

James Bond

Friday, May 18th, 2007

About two weeks ago I bought this James Bond collection DVD box. Every James Bond movie is included. Totally, 21.

I guess you guys can wonder how come three discs can contain so many movies. The answer is, yeah, they are not as original; it’s pirated stuff. It seems to me that the piracy trends in Asia are going along the lines of compressing the movies in order to put together a number of them on each disc. Right now the most common is to get nine movies per disc. The quality is not as good as the original, but not bad at all. The price absolutely unbeatable: around 1.5 EUR/disc.

I have been watching a few double-zero-seven movies recently. I find it kind of cool.

For some reason, there are quite a few Asian sexy characters on the movies. It’s not only in the latest ones but also in older ones like “Dr. No”, for example. I find that kind of interesting since it seemed to me that considering the Asian look sexy was pretty new. But “Dr. No” is from 1962.

It’s pretty cool also observing how the format of the movies keeps pretty similar, but they are adapted to what’s cool in the moment of the movie release. For example the first movies have this classic/oldy soundtrack while the newer ones have this disco-bouncy stuff.

But James Bond stays the same. He is this arrogant asshole who hovers above all. Daniel Craig (the latest 007) is kinda hyper-muscled while Sean Connery or Roger Moore are more skinny. Different look, same thing.

The James Bond’s Wikipedia page has pretty nice information.
